Learn about a couple of great mystery series of great garden fiction available in both paperback and digital forms to put on your book list.
I've always been a reader. When I was a kid I loved going to the Bookmobile, which was a large bus from the library that would come near our house on Wednesday evenings. As an adult, I still love to read especially at night, and more during the summer. I still occasionally go to the library, but more and more I am adding books to my Nook. As a gardener, I read love to find some great garden fiction, especially mystery series.
However, paperbacks are a must when we go on vacation at the beach. I still bring my Nook but I don't dare take it near the pool where it will likely get damaged with canonballs and water fights. I find shorter, light stories, that can be easily picked up where you left off are the best choices for vacation.
Great Garden Fiction
My most recent purchase was from a series I have been reading for a long time. It's called "Mourning Glory" and is part of the China Bayles Mystery series by Susan Wittig Albert. The main character, China Bayles, is a big city lawyer who gives up her stressful career to move to small town Pecan Springs, Texas where she opens her own store called Thyme and Seasons Herb Shop. Little did she know that she would even up getting involved in one drama after another. There are 20 books so far in the series each with a unique plant related title. The books are short mysteries and at the beginning of each chapter Ms Albert gives you a unique quote or historical detail of a plant. They are lots of fun. If you haven't tried them yet you are in for a treat.
Another good garden fiction choice, is a series by Mary Freeman labeled A Gardening Mystery. The main character, Rachel O'Connor, owns the Rain Country Landscaping Company set in Oregon's Columbia Gorge. In the first book, "Devils Trumpet," Rachel finds herself needing to solving a murder mystery before her business goes up in flames. A strong female protagonist, with a passion for gardening, along with several quirky characters makes this series a fun read.
