Flower pot herbal beer bread. We used to sell these at the herb shop as a gift kit, but you can easily make them yourself. All you need is a terracotta pot and ingredients for the bread.
Flower Pot Herbal Beer Bread
I’m using a quick beer bread recipe, because it is super easy and you can add any herbs that you like. Since I’m not a huge bread baker I can only guess that this would work with a number of bread recipes.
If your pot has a hole in the bottom, cover it with a piece of foil. My husband really like the moistness of this beer bread, which has a muffin or biscuit like texture. Even though it doesn’t have any preservatives, it held up in a plastic bag for several days. Maybe it’s the beer?
Make sure you grease the pot with butter, so that the dough does not stick to the pot.
Give this as a gift by combining the flour and spices together in a bag, and place it in a clean pot, tied up with a bow. Add a tag telling the recipient to add beer, butter and fresh herbs or dried herbs in the flour mix.
Remember when swapping dried herbs with fresh you should increase the amount by three. For example, 1 T of dried basil would equal 3 T of fresh.
I could see this at a garden party with mini pots. One for each guest. Wouldn’t that be fun!
- 3 cups self-rising flour
- 3 tablespoons fresh chopped herbs or 1 tablespoon dried
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon garlic salt (optional)
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 bottle of beer (12 oz.)
- Place a piece of foil to cover the hole in the bottom of the pot.
- Grease the entire inside with butter
- Mix all ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
- Transfer to greased pot.
- Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour.
